Palworld Breeding Formula Explained

The Breeding Power Formula

At the heart of every Palworld breeding combination is a simple mathematical rule. The Breeding Power of each Pal acts like a numeric ID. When you breed two Pals, the game calculates the average of their Breeding Powers and picks the Pal whose power is closest to that average. The formula is:

Offspring Power = (Parent1 Power + Parent2 Power) / 2

Then the offspring species is the one whose Breeding Power value is nearest to this computed average.

Breaking Down the Variables

  • Parent1 Power: A fixed number assigned to the first parent Pal (e.g., Lamball = 1460).
  • Parent2 Power: The fixed number for the second parent Pal (e.g., Foxparks = 1750).
  • Average: The sum divided by two. This is the target power value the offspring seeks.

Why This Formula Works

Game developers wanted a predictable but flexible breeding system. Using an average ensures that the offspring is a middle ground between the two parents in terms of “species strength.” Because each species has a unique power, the average naturally points to a specific other Pal. This design makes the system easy to calculate manually while still offering surprises when parents have very different powers.

Practical Implications and Edge Cases

How to Target a Specific Offspring

To get a particular Pal, you need to know its Breeding Power. Then find two parents whose average equals (or is very close to) that target. For example, if you want Pal A with power 1600, you could breed a Pal with power 1500 and a Pal with power 1700 because (1500+1700)/2 = 1600. The calculator does this matching for you instantly.

What Happens When the Average is Exactly Between Two Pals?

Sometimes the average falls precisely halfway between the Breeding Powers of two different Pals. In the game, the rule is to pick the Pal with the lower Breeding Power (or sometimes the one that appears first in the game’s internal list). The calculator we offer follows the same logic to match the in-game result.

Do Some Pals Have the Same Power?

Yes, a few Pals share the exact same Breeding Power. When you breed two such Pals, the average equals that power, so the offspring will always be one of those Pals. Usually the game selects the more common one, but the calculator shows all possibilities.

Historical Origin of the Formula

Palworld's breeding formula is inspired by classic creature-collection games like Pokémon, where breeding is tied to “Egg Groups” or numeric values. However, Palworld simplifies the process by using a single linear power scale. This makes it easier to understand and predict outcomes without needing a spreadsheet. The averaging rule has been a staple in many fan-made calculators for years.

With this knowledge, you can plan your breeding projects with confidence. Whether you're aiming for a powerful fighter or a rare Pal, the formula never changes. Use our Palworld Breeding Calculator to test combinations and see the formula in action.
